Basil Gimlet

So I’m typically a traditional daquiri girl if I’m looking for something quick, easy, boozy and delicious served up (Hemmingway’s are some of my favorite cocktails), but with my newfound love for Gin, I have recently discovered the Gimlet and I AM OBSESSED. Floral, bright, strong, and pairs so well with cocktails, better than vodka in my opinion!

I attended an event put on by Refuge that you can read about here, and they had a Shiso Gimlet. I of course couldn’t find Shiso, so I thought a Basil Gimlet would be delicious, and I was right!! Make this at home, and I promise it will become one of your new faves!!

Ingredients

6 Large fresh basil leaves (1 for garnish)

1 and 1/2 ounces of Gin

1 and 1/2 ounces of fresh squeezed lime juice

1 and 1/2 ounces of simple syrup

Club Soda Water (Optional)

Tools

Nick & Nora Glass or Large Coupe

Muddler

Jigger

Cocktail Shaker

Strainer

Directions

  1. Add the basil leaves and gin to a cocktail shaker and muddle for about 20 seconds until the basil leaves are crushed.

  2. Add the lime juice and simple syrup to the cocktail shaker. Fill it with ice and shake until cold.

  3. Strain the drink into glass, and top with a splash of soda water, if desired (I prefer it without).

  4. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf (fastened via a cocktail pick, if desired).

  5. Enjoy!
